Del Mar Sunglasses:
Eye-Tech
Extreme conditions call for extreme technology and engineering.
Well, we've answered that call with technology this industry
has never laid eyes on before. Every inch of our frames. Every
layer of our lens. Perfectly designed to look the elements
straight in the eyes without blinking. Check out the competition
chart below to see how Costa Del Mar Sunglasses beat the competition...
Where The Vision Began
Over twenty years ago, Costa Del Mar® introduced a sun
lens that quickly became one of the best performing polarized
lenses out there. Now, with the addition of WAVE Technology™,
this lens has become our WAVE 400™ series, and it's
only gotten better. Using our proprietary manufacturing process,
the Wave 400™ eliminates glare and UV rays while providing
new levels of enhanced definition and contrast. Available
in Glass, Mirrored Glass, CR-39®, and Polycarbonate.
Nice Shades
People use the water in different
ways. But regardless of what they're doing, we have a lens
that will cover them. Our engineers have specially designed
our lenses for a variety of specific light conditions. And
no matter what the light conditions are, our system is guaranteed
to deliver superior quality and clarity.
Gray – A
neutral color that provides contrast and minimized color distortion.
Ideal for water sports, beaches, offshore fishing.
Amber –
A brown tint that increases contrast in most light conditions.
In addition to bright sun, amber offers excellent light management
properties on cloudy or rainy days. Designed for general purpose,
high contrast light situations.
Vermillion
– A rose/copper tint which heightens visual acuity and
enhances color. Delivers brightest field of vision and is
applicable for sight fishing, bass fishing, inshore fishing,
sport shooting, extreme sports and skiing.
Sunrise ™
A high contrast specialty lens for early morning and late
evening. Designed for fishing, extreme sports, and sport shooting.
Blue Mirror –
Designed for bright sun conditions from offshore fishing to
most water sports. The lens is gray and the blue mirror is
encased inside the lens for maximum scratch resistance.
Green Mirror –
Offers enhanced visual acuity for specific light situations
such as sight fishing, but is worn by many for everyday use.
The lens color is amber and the green mirror is encased inside
the lens for maximum scratch resistance.
580 Wave Technology:
We’d like to show you a
sun lens so clear, so sharp, it’s like nothing you’ve
ever seen through before. It’s Costa Del Mar’s
WAVE 580™ lens series with our breakthrough proprietary
WAVE Technology™, and it will change the way you see
the world. In fact, this technology is so cutting edge, we
were awarded two US patents. Using Wavelength Absorption for
Visual Enhancement, or WAVE Technology™, this lens delivers
rich color saturation, unsurpassed definition and a more vivid
world. Go ahead. See for yourself.
Clearing The Way
The WAVE 580™ lens allows
you to take in more of the light your eye should be seeing.
Thanks to our proprietary WAVE Technology™, this lens
raises the red, blue, and green areas of the light spectrum
to extraordinary levels, providing unmatched definition and
color saturation. Simply put, you’re going to see like
never before. The light near 580 nanometers, lying within
the yellow region of the spectrum, is particularly difficult
for the eye to process. Why? Excessive glare. Reducing this
strong presence of yellow light controls this glare for incredible
visual acuity. And while the WAVE 580™ lens is delivering
enhanced color saturation and definition, it’s also
delivering some of the strongest UV protection available on
the market today.
Made For Your World
Are you ready for a world where
colors are richer and more vibrant. A world where harsh, glaring
light is nonexistent? Then look into the high-performance
light management of the WAVE 580™ lens. You’ll
never experience anything like it, because this is the first
and only sun lens that allows you to fully experience color
enhanced polarized vision. So when you’re ready to conquer
light like never before, step up to the WAVE 580™, and
see your world in a better light.
Choose the color that meets your particular needs. Then choose
the Costa Del Mar® frame that meets your taste, because
the WAVE 580™ lenses fit them all.
Gray- A neutral
color that provides natural contrast and minimizes color distortion,
even at low light levels.
Copper- Designed
to heighten visual acuity and color enhancement while delivering
the brightest field of vision.
Our
new sun lens filters 100% harmful UV rays and yellow light
over 50% better than any other lens on the market.
*The unique feature of the WAVE 580™ lens is how it
improves the wearer’s vision through greater color discrimination
and the reduction of obtrusive glare. The WAVE 580™
lens uses a combination of polarization and a proprietary
technology that allows the eye to take in more light, raising
the red, blue and green areas of the light spectrum to extraordinary
levels while eliminating the strong presence of yellow light,
which creates glare. This proprietary technology is the subject
of pending and issued patents.

How WAVE Technology™ Stacks
Up.
A look into the most advanced sun lens ever.
With 8 layers of the most advanced films and
optics, Costa Del Mar® makes the highest performing lenses
on the water – and anywhere else for that matter.

We do have a lighter
side.
Yeah, we’re serious about our work, but we do lighten
up from time to time. Like with our LightWAVE™ glass
lens. It’s the lightest glass sun lens available today.
Actually, it’s 20% lighter and 22% thinner than the
average polarized sun lens. But while we cut back on weight,
we never compromised on strength. When the folks at ANSI came
down for testing, the only thing that was shattered was their
definition of the glass lens.
If dropping a 16 gram steel ball in the center of the LightWAVE™
lens didn’t prove how strong it was, then dropping the
ball 9 more times did. That’s what ANSI Test Z80.3:1996
calls for, and the LightWAVE™ lens passed with no problem.

That’s when we decided to give the ANSI test a little
more impact. About 140% more impact. Even when we dropped
a 40 gram steel ball in the center of the LightWAVE™
lens, it held strong, proving this ultra-light, ultra-thin
glass lens comes at no sacrifice to durability.
Frame Technology:
Extreme elements call for extreme technology
and engineering. And we've answered that call with our complete
line of revolutionary frame systems that provide exactly what
the situation demands. From advanced compounds, to one-of-a-kind
processes, these frames are the perfect complement to our
high-performance sun lenses.
What We're Made Of
Inside our frames, you’ll find some of the most advanced
materials and technologies in the industry. Each possess the
performance characteristics serious water enthusiasts demand
from their eyewear.
Titanium
Fused Grilamid (TFG)
Using a proprietary process, we've taken the raw strength
and durability of titanium and fused it with one of the most
advanced nylons made today. The result is an unrivaled frame
material that offers ultimate performance, strength, and comfort.
Megol® nose pads, wire core temples and revolutionary
spring hinges complete this highly-evolved frame system.
Co-Injected
Composite
For those who live 90% of their lives on the water, comfort
is just as important as performance. And with our advanced
cold-molded, co-injected frame process, comfort doesn't come
at the sacrifice of performance. Using Hydrolite™, a
rubberized composite, and advanced nylon materials, we've
engineered a frame with maximum performance and comfort.
Nylon
Composite
Offering almost indestructible durability, our nylon frames
are designed to tough it out even after years of extreme conditions.
Featuring a memory design that maintains proper shape, and
either spring hinges or ultra-durable molded hinges, these
frames are as tough as they come.
Metals
Polished. Laser welded. And electroplated. Our metal frames
are some of the finest the industry has to offer. Made from
Monel, a nickel-silver alloy based metal, these hypoallergenic
frames offer excellent levels of both performance and comfort
for those who prefer the sharp look of metal frames.
Combination
This is where performance meets design. These exclusive, Italian
designed Costa Del Mar® frames represent the finest in
form and function. Available in gunmetal, antique copper,
and black matte finishes, our combination frames feature custom
nose pads, premium nickel-silver spring hinges, and fully
adjustable wire core temples.
Italian
Zyl
Handmade to deliver exceptional durability and fit, our Zyl
frames are the most adjustable frames we offer. These frames
are hand cut from the highest quality ophthalmic material
known, and then polished for seven days to a natural sheen.
Our Italian Zyl frames feature wire core temples and nickel-silver
hinges.
Polarization:
• Ordinary sunglasses only
reduce the amount of visible light entering the eye. Your
eyes already have that natural ability. Polarization provides
a level of light management that ordinary sunglasses do not
have the ability to perform. Only polarization offers a true
working technology that eliminates glare and delivers uncompromised
performance.
• Polarizing a lens is
the process of laminating on (cheap), or casting in (the way
we do it), a polarizing film to a lens. Our polarized film
consists of polyvinyl alcohol molecules running in horizontal
parallel chains. These chains act as a filter to block out
light that bounces off horizontal reflective surfaces such
as water, the highway, or the moisture in the air around you.
This reflected light is 7 to 10 times brighter than ambient
light and is commonly referred to as glare.
• The real problem is glare.
Although not quite as intense as a flash bulb, reflective
glare has a cumulative effect that, over the course of a few
hours in the sun, will produce the same effect as a flash
bulb. Many vision problems associated with night driving are
rooted not only in the ability to see at night, but the lingering
effects of exposure to glare during the daylight hours.
• Like a camera, the eye
must adjust to the glare in the foreground so it mutes the
lower light levels. If you eliminate reflected glare, the
remaining light falls in a narrow range of intensity allowing
your eyes to relax and enjoy greater depth perception and
true color contrast.
UV Protection:
• UV is divided into 3
segments based primarily on their photobiological action.
- UVA (320-400nm) is of particular concern to eyecare professionals,
because it can easily damage the retina of the human eye.
- UVB (286-320nm) is of the greatest
concern, because it is associated with the production of cataracts.
- UVC (below 286nm) is effectively
filtered by the earth's ozone layer and does not reach the
earth's surface.
• Costa Del Mar® lenses
filter out 100% of dangerous ultraviolet rays through at least
400nm. By blocking 100% UVA and 100% UVB, Costa Del Mar sunproof
lenses exceed FDA and ANSI Z80.3 standards for special purpose
sun protective eyewear as well as the European and British
standards BS2724.
• Unlike a typical sun
lens that is simply coated with a UV bath, Costa Del Mar Lenses
have the UV filter integrated into the lens when it is made.
This insures that the UV protection will never rub off, fade
or be rendered ineffective by scratches and abrasions.
Blue Light
• The human eye can only
focus on a narrow spectrum of light at one time. Lighter colors
in the middle of the visible light spectrum are the easiest
for the eye to focus on while darker colors add contrast to
the field of vision.
• Blue light falls in the middle of the spectrum and
focuses imperfectly on the retina while scattering in the
eye. This phenomenon called "blue blur" is further
intensified by moisture and dust particles on clear days,
and haze, fog, rain and snow on overcast days.
• Costa Del Mar's WAVE
Technology™ eliminates unwanted blue light leaving only
enough for color recognition.
